Hemo Mom Challenges Exposed

As a mom, my first priority when it comes to my kids is to make sure they are safe and healthy.

As a mom of a little boy who happens to save severe hemophilia b, my priority to him is not only to make sure he is safe and healthy, but that he is still doing things kids his age should be doing (which can be challenging as a parent). My biggest challenges have been sports and daycare.

It would be so easy and give me less anxiety if I could put him in a bubble forever but I know this would not do him any good.

Letting Grayson learn his boundaries and limitations with his hemophilia and his target joints can wreck havoc on my nerves. But he never stops trying in the things he wants to succeed in. He’s very active, loves sports and loves to be outside. This is the type of childhood I’ve wanted for my kids.

My son was already enrolled in a daycare when he was diagnosed with hemophilia. We are very fortunate and blessed to have our kids in a small close knit daycare. The teachers are absolutely amazing. Even still, it has been a huge obstacle I have had to work through.

❣️

It is my job as his mother to let him experience this and have that social interaction. It is also my job to make sure anyone caring for him (daycare or family) understands hemophilia and his risks.

❣️

Hemophilia makes things a little more difficult at times but as he grows and becomes older we all adapt. We live our lives. Learning and communicating is the key. Learning as much as possible and communicating that knowledge to everyone is so important.

What have your challenges been?
